Zombie Outbrick: Episode 43

blockcomics
5th Nov 2011, 12:08 AM

And so in this episode, the news footage cuts out, and Chris points out something that may lead the group to finally understanding their situation…

Whenever I have to shoot an episode in which the camera changes directions frequently between shots, I either have to turn my entire set around, or take all the shots for one angle all at once, and then all the shots for the other angle.

In this case, I chose the latter; this means I had to take my shots out of order, making continuity a hassle to maintain between shots... I actually forgot to change the TV's light from green to red in the last panel of this episode! Luckily, I was able to correct that in Photoshop. ;)

I apologize for the delays, the extra work required for my Halloween episode really threw me off-schedule. To save time, I actually ended up writing this author comment while I shooting this episode! (via windows speech recognition, of course.) That good news is, I was finally able to shoot another episode in advance, so the next episode should be released on time.

Anyway, as always, let me know what you think of this episode.

That's a zombie...wait, you don't know what a zombie is!?! That seems to be a theme of zombie flicks.

Haha, it sure does.

I suppose things just wouldn't be quite as interesting if the main characters in zombie movies just instantaneously realized what they were dealing with. (Although I suppose it has been done before...)

Dave?

Whoot! Dave zombie got himself some brains!

I think it has been done for other zombie stories of characters knowing what they're dealing with. Or assuming so.

Though like in some werewolf flicks... it's annoyed me how quickly a character has assumed and known they're a werewolf and they technically didn't quiet have enough information to work with.

Uh-oh, now I've got my audience cheering for the zombies rather than the protagonists... That can't be a good sign! ;)

And that's exactly what I was thinking. I wanted to avoid a "Pale skin? Shambling? They must be zombies! Quick, shoot them in the head, everybody!" situation. It just strikes me as being less realistic.

You really need to figure out how to get music on here. You've been having a lot of "Bum ba BUM" moments lately haha :P

These people obviously do not live in today's society. If they did, they would instantly recognize a zombie and yank whatever tool they had hidden in their briefcase and start figuring out how to survive.

They must live in a world where the word 'zombie' doesn't exist.

Hah, yeah...

I figure that if zombies existed in pop culture in the Zombie Outbrick universe, then it'd be like making a modern remake of Dracula in which the main characters just read the Bram Stoker novel, or watch the Universal movie, and easily learn how to kill him. (Now that just wouldn't be as scary, now would it?)

Although, if we were all rational people, and a shooting occurred at your place of business, then you witnessed people being shot by a policeman (one of which then got back up, and was promptly and violently shot again,) would you, in reality, assume that a zombie apocalypse was underway and start killing people (or "zombies") with whatever you had?

I know I wouldn't. I'd look for alternate, more rational explanations for what was going on first, even though I do have a concept of what a zombie is. ;)

You know its ture surviving a zombie invasion is not like a video game

That's very true, for many reasons.

In reality, you'd also have the psychological impact to deal with, for one thing.

yes

ZOMPOCALYPSE

You know surviving in a zombie invasion is harder than you expect for example killing a zombie would take a lot of force unless you use a gun which would be hard to find

Yeah, people really seem to oversimplify zombie apocalypse survival, and don't think of it from quite such a realistic standpoint.

Even when confronted with someone I had never known personally, whom I was sure was a zombie, who was also directly threatening my very life, and I had the proper tools/weapons to do so, I'm not sure I could bring myself to kill them. Killing is difficult to deal with, for most of the sane and rational human race.

Why zombies scream? I think it'd be for primal communication, or just an animalistic reflex.

ZOMPOCALYPSE

yes do zombies scream to let other zombies know that he or she found fresh meat or just for no reson

I think they moan and scream for no reason, but I think the moaning and screaming does alert other zombies to the existence of "food."

I don't think they communicate on purpose, necessarily.

A zombie has rushed toward our cameraman and the picture has gone black just as we hear an inhuman howl of terror and pain from ted...must have been a camera glitch.

Of course it was a camera glitch! What else could it have been?

Although we wouldn't be able to hear a scream from Ted, as the sound wasn't coming in anyway! ;)
